With this new large work I’m starting an exploration of deities and mythical beings that I intend to continue.

Building on the themes of my previous painting ‘People Say I’m Lazy’, I wanted to pay homage to those who know how to kick back and soak up the day without feeling the pressure to conform.

I feel one of the greatest queer freedoms is realising you no longer need to conform, to try and fit in. This painting is a tribute to that freedom.

I like the diversity of mark making in this work: loose and sketchy around the smaller figure, more solid around the larger one then leading into the background. Definitely drawing on Gaugin’s palette and sense of reverie.

A magical, mythical abstract figurative painting.
